To really enjoy cleaning you must reach a state of mind that many attempt, but only a few manage to attain. However, there’s no shame in disliking vacuuming, doing the laundry, or cleaning your kids’ wasted toothpaste off the side of the bathtub (seriously, how are they getting it over there!?) This is particularly the case living in the Pacific Northwest. Who wants to do house cleaning on one of the few perfect Seattle spring days?
If cleaning feels like unpaid work for you, you’re certainly not alone. But it does not have to feel that way. Doing housework is one of best forms of exercise you can do without stepping outside of your own home. No gym membership, yoga pants, or impossible-to-please personal trainer required! And what makes exercise more of a kick than putting a soundtrack behind it? Get your head nodding and your hips twisting to a few of your favorites and the house will be sparkling in no time. Better yet, program Alexa, Siri, or just your “old-fashioned” MP3 player to the following series of Cleaning Classics and you’ve got your theme music set for the day.
Here’s a list of our must-haves for your Cleaning Classics Playlist:
Another One Bites the Dust / Queen – You can either use your broom to air guitar like Brian May or as a mic stand to dance like Freddie Mercury.
Cleanin’ Out My Closet / Eminem – It’s not the most fast-paced of songs, but that’s OK. If your closet looks anything like ours, it’s not going to be a quick job anyway.
Dirty Laundry / The Eagles – You’ll get the chorus “Kick’em when they’re up! Kick’em when they’re down!” stuck in your head as you transfer clothes from the washer to the dryer over and over again.
Blame it on the Rain / Milli Vanilli – Perfect for washing windows and getting mud stains out of little people’s shirts, pants, and dresses. Gotta blame it on something.
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For / U2 – How many cleaning projects actually began as you looking for something and not finding it? Car keys, phone chargers, and children’s homework are the usual suspects.
Takin’ Care of Business / Bachman Turner Overdrive – Between this power grinder and their other 1974 mega-hit “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet”, BTO has been jamming at every sports arena for the last 45 years. The same thumping energy that courses through your veins after a touchdown by your favorite team can come alive as you clean the oven, mop the floors, and change the sheets.
